This Carers Week we’re helping with Getting Carers Connected

Looking after someone who is elderly, disabled, ill or who misuses drugs or alcohol can be rewarding but, without the right support, carers can feel isolated or neglect their own health.

The theme of this year’s Carers Week is Getting Carers Connected. This is about ensuring carers are aware of the information and support they are entitled to or can carers week 2019 connecting carers webaccess it – which is at the heart of what we do at Carers in Hertfordshire.

Roma Mills, our Policy and Engagement Manager, said: “Carers Week helps highlight the important role carers play in keeping those they support healthy and safe, often putting their own wellbeing second. It’s also an opportunity to build on our work connecting carers with each other so they don’t feel isolated and also signposting them to the health and community services or other support they are entitled to or that would make a positive difference to their caring role.”

Carers Week is a national awareness week to raise the profile of carers and caring and this year is the 25th anniversary. The Week takes place from 10th -16th June 2019.

During the week there will be a range of events for carers to meet other carers, get information or have a break from caring. Events planned include drop-in information events, pamper sessions and an afternoon at Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne for families with a young person with severe learning disabilities or complex health needs. Details of the activities are below.

We will also have information stands in shops, hospitals and other venues – so do stop by to say hello and find out more about our services or ask a question. .
