We will be running our first ever exhibition called Insights by the Carers Camera Club. This celebration of their photographic work is being held at Courtyard Arts Centre in Hertford in the two weeks following Carers Week. In the first part, imagery is used to show how carers experience their role symbolically and in reality. In the second part, images show the expression of creativity that photography gives to carers.

picture featured in insights exhibitionThe club meets monthly on an informal basis, following on from Digital Camera courses that have been run in conjunction with local FE colleges within Hertfordshire such as North Herts College, Herts Regional College and Oaklands College. Belonging to this group has enhanced wellbeing and reduced isolation, by providing carers with a regular break and an opportunity to learn and develop photographic and IT skills. Alongside this, there is a shared understanding and support amongst the group about their caring circumstances. Carers find that they can contribute and keep in touch remotely via email when they are unable to attend in person.

Taking photographs is a great opportunity to embrace the countryside and improve your health and wellbeing and can be managed alongside caring, due to the portable nature of cameras. Recent courses run by West Herts College have meant that the carers camera club is likely to expand in the future.

Insights Exhibition runs from the 16th - 27th June 2015 at Courtyard Arts Centre, Port Vale, Hertford, SG14 3AA
