Carers from the Buntingford area attended our Information and Support event to learn more about our plans for a new Carer Support Hub for the area and are pleased to be getting a local group.
Carers that attended the event at the Seth Ward Community Centre, Buntingford, on Tuesday 19th September, learned about services locally to help them with their caring role and shared ideas on what they would find useful from a hub support group. They also enjoyed a yoga and relaxation session led by local Yoga teacher Adrienne Bagnall.
Alex Daar, Our Caring Communities Projects Officer, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people at the event and discussing what they would like from a support group. Hubs are led by carers for carers and run by volunteers with support from Carers in Hertfordshire.”
She explained that the group will start meeting on Tuesday 28th November at Buntingford Library and unpaid carers are welcome to drop-in to this session or any future meetings. The group will meet on the last Tuesday of each month from 10.30am – 12.30pm (excluding December).
Lee Morrison, who cares for his wife who has a range of health conditions, said: “It was an informative event one thing I learnt was about how yoga and relaxation can help, something I hadn’t considered before. I’m really looking forward to the chance to meet other carers and have support locally without having to travel to another town. I think it will benefit us all.”
Another carer Hayley said: “It was nice to spend time with other carers, somewhere we could be understood as we’re all in the same boat. I will come along to a local Hub.”
The Buntingford Hub is the twelfth group to be set up through our Caring Communities Project thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund. We plan to have 16 hubs in Hertfordshire by 2019 so that carers have local networks of support.
