Do you care for someone with a Severe Mental Illness (SMI) who has struggled to engage with traditional Mental Health Services?
We really need to hear about your experience of caring for someone with an SMI who has not engaged with mental health services over the past 2 years. Were you listened to – or was your voice ignored?
An Intensive Assertive Outreach Meeting has been set up following NHS England’s request that all Integrated Care Boards (NHS service commissioners) review their policies and practices regarding the care of people with a Severe Mental Illness who need treatment but where engagement is a challenge. This follows the Care Quality Commission report after three people were killed in Nottingham in 2023 by a man who at the time was suffering from Paranoid Schizophrenia. The report stated that family contacted the local Trust to share their concerns about his deteriorating mental state, but this information was not acted on.
We will be attending the Intensive Assertive Outreach Meeting which gives us a real opportunity to feedback your experiences – anonymously – to those responsible for funding and providing mental health services with a view to seeing some positive changes.
